East Rugby Sponsorship

In 1947 the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) started an “Old Boys Competition” for past students of notable secondary schools in the central Brisbane region, with one of the teams being the Brisbane State High School Old Boys. While this team became known as Colts in 1948, just one year later at the suggestion of the QRU, the club assumed the name Eastern Districts.

Today, that club is known as Easts Rugby Union Inc, or locally as the Easts Tigers. With its alumni including our very own George Samios, the Madd Loans office in Seven Hills now counts the Easts as one of their closest neighbours.

The club plays in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition, and also fields teams for males and females in several other grades and age groups based competitions. Easts draw players primarily from the Eastern and Southern suburbs of Brisbane, ranging from West End to Capalaba, and further south to Mount Gravatt. As a centralised meeting point, the club’s home ground is Bottomley Park in Coorparoo.

While the club boasts the title of launching the rugby union careers of international stars such as David Wilson and Gene Fairbanks, the pride of the club is arguably the Tiger Cubs – the club’s junior division that is home to over one thousand players, ranging from Under 6 to Under 17. Teaching the next generation a sense of work ethic, discipline, camaraderie and teamwork, the Tiger Cubs are a community that has brought countless families together across Brisbane’s Eastern Suburbs.

First introduced to sponsorship opportunities for the Tiger Cubs by long time customer Rach Tierman of SuperStars Dance Studios, George and the team at Madd Loans jumped at the chance to sponsor the Under 11 Blue team, and have twice donated the annual $1,500 fee to supply the team’s football jerseys required to play. Whether the Easts are able to produce the next David Campanese remains to be seen, but Madd are proud to be involved with community sport efforts on any level.
