George at Churchie: Financial Literacy Workshop

At Madd, we are on a mission to bridge the financial literacy gap for young Australians. Our Financial Literacy Initiative is all about providing students with real-world financial knowledge—the kind of knowledge that is often not covered in the school curriculum but plays a significant role in shaping their futures. Recently, George had the opportunity to present at Churchie (Anglican Church Grammar School)—a place with a special connection, as he briefly attended the school before moving to Villanova. Returning to Churchie was a great experience, and George was blown away by the students’ interest and engagement. They asked smart, thoughtful questions and demonstrated a real eagerness to learn. It is clear there is a real appetite for this kind of knowledge, and that is exactly why we are so committed to these workshops.

What Do Our Workshops Cover?
Our workshops are designed to be practical and engaging. We focus on teaching skills that young people will use throughout their lives, including:

Budgeting and Saving: We teach students the importance of saving, respecting their money, and understanding its true value. Our workshops highlight how small, smart decisions today can lead to big financial rewards in the future, instilling a mindset that values financial responsibility and long-term planning.

Understanding Credit:
Many young people enter adulthood without a clear understanding of credit. We explain how credit works, what a credit score is, and why managing credit wisely can open doors—or close them if handled poorly.

Loans and Borrowing: From personal loans to mortgages, borrowing money is a part of life. Our workshops explain interest rates, repayment terms, and highlight the importance of borrowing within your means.

Managing Debt:
We discuss strategies for avoiding debt traps, paying off existing debts, and understanding the long-term impact of financial decisions. This is crucial knowledge that helps young adults avoid common financial mistakes.

Investing 101: It is never too early to start thinking about building wealth. We introduce students to the basics of investing, explaining different types of investments and the benefits of starting early.

Financial Decision-Making: Using real-life scenarios, we guide students through practical lessons on how to buy property, understand equity, and build wealth through smart financial decisions. From saving for a deposit to navigating the complexities of home loans, we break down the steps involved in purchasing property.

Why Is Financial Literacy So Important?

Financial literacy is not just about managing money—it is about building confidence, independence, and security. With the right knowledge, young people can avoid financial pitfalls, achieve their goals faster, and handle life’s challenges with resilience.

Unfortunately, many of these topics are not covered in traditional schooling, leaving young adults to figure things out through trial and error. At Madd, we believe there is a better way. By providing structured, interactive workshops, we give students the head start they deserve.

Helping Students Shape Their Financial Futures

The feedback from Churchie was fantastic, and we are keen to keep the momentum going. We would love to visit more schools, sharing valuable insights and helping young Australians build a strong financial foundation.
If you would like us to visit your school, please get in touch! Whether it is a classroom setting, a full assembly, or a tailored workshop for a specific group, we are here to help make a lasting impact.
