Madd Loans has become a leading force in mortgage broking, recognized nationally for its expertise. Dedicated to helping clients achieve their dreams, the team has facilitated financing for over two thousand individuals. Built on a foundation of referrals, owner George Samios prioritizes a stress-free, enjoyable, and educational loan process. While his numerous awards attest to his success, it’s the transformation of his initial vision into a thriving business, despite humble beginnings in a small East Brisbane office, that truly defines his decade-plus achievement. Madd Loans’ success is a testament to its devoted clientele.
Having explored the realms of banking and real estate, a young and enthusiastic George Samios realised that he had not yet discovered his true calling.
At the youthful age of twenty-three, George, already recognised as Bank West’s top mobile lender in Australia, took the leap and established the foundation for what would eventually become Madd Home Loans. Driven by his personal experiences and a determination to redefine the perception of finance as intimidating and stressful, he achieved remarkable progress in just six months, allowing him to hire his first employee.
In his inaugural year, George successfully facilitated the settlement of 61 home loans, totaling an impressive value of $27 million. Despite these accomplishments, George still warmly recalls his very first customer, Greg, who remains a proud and loyal client, along with his children.
Drowning in a small sea of manila folders, George knew that he needed a better workspace if he wanted to continue to grow Madd Loans. In year two of operations, he was able to upgrade his space, and went on to purchase the current office in Seven Hills. What’s more, is that he was also in the position to take on a second employee: his Mum.
Despite already receiving accolades such as 2013’s “Magazine Broker Profile Young Gun” from MPA Magazine and ranked sixth on the “Biggest Loan Writer In Australia Under 30” from The Adviser, George also invested in sessions with Michael Zavelberg, an expert on the Japanese concept of Kaizen – meaning continuous improvement.
By year three in business, George was by all means just warming up. Motivated at the results he was achieving when compared to other brands with triple his resources, George was already well on his way towards becoming a key figure in the mortgage broking industry. Despite his small team, he managed to settle 260 loans, at a total value of $115 million.
In 2014, George and Madd Loans won “Best Independent Office” from The Advisor, “Young Gun Of The Year” at the Connective National Excellence Awards, and was ranked the 50th “Biggest Loan Writer In Australia” from MPA Magazine.
Despite starting to dabble in marketing tactics with Vince, George was acutely aware of the fact that many of his customers were referred to him by existing clientele. It was during this period that George adopted a key Madd Loans policy of conducting annual home loan health checks to retain customer satisfaction, and avoid the ‘rack and stack’ route of his competitors.
With a team of six, George was also busy experimenting with the brand, and how the Seven Hills office would best reflect the core ethics of the business. While the signature green hue was always present, he began the process of removing walls and expanding the workspace to encourage a more collaborative and open plan environment for staff and clients alike.
After settling 246 loans at a total value of $115 million, George and the Madd Loans team were still scooping up more than their fair share of awards, such as “Rising Star – Queensland” and “Best Loan Administrator QLD” at The Adviser’s Better Business Awards, and “Best Marketing Connective” at the National Excellence Awards.
George made a conscious choice to place even more focus on developing his team, particularly younger staff members who may have been looking for a clearer direction with their overall career. By utilising his own experiences and his young age, George realised that he was in the unique position to help not just his clients, but his staff as well.
With the help of his team, George managed to grow the brand’s earning to $125 million dollars worth of finance, and settled 286 loans. What’s more, was that the award cabinet was continuing to grow, with new titles including “QLD Broker Of The Year” at the Connective Awards and “National And State Broker Of The Year” from the Finance Broker Association of Australia.
Inspired by his passion to teach the next generation of ‘young guns’, George saw something special in two particular interns, Kris and Costa. Costa quickly followed in George’s footsteps and is now a fully qualified mortgage broker.
With placing more focus on staff training and customer service, George, and the team at Madd still managed to settle 289 loans, at a total of $124 million. While Madd also brought home more awards to add to the trophy cabinet, 2017 also marked the year when George sponsored his first local venture and existing Madd client, Rachael Tiernan and Superstars Dance Classes.
With a total of 264 loans settled in excess of $130 million dollars, 2018 was another busy year for George and the team at Madd Loans. While George was kept busy mentoring his fleet of budding mortgage brokers, the brand was thriving thanks to the launch of Madd Life, an in house financial planning service. This way, the team could offer a full scale service to help clients achieve true financial freedom.
On the back of his work with Vince for television commercials and a strong local reputation for being one of the best in the business, 2018 was also the year that a long term partnership with Channel Seven started. From news segments to opinion pieces, George was rapidly becoming an industry thought leader in the financial space.
As such, it’s no surprise that he also took home a new award for “Best Innovator” from the Adviser. Keeping in mind that this was also in conjunction with yet another “Broker Of The Year” from the Connective Awards, these accolades only affirmed that the Madd Loans approach to the world of finance was making waves for the right reasons.
Now equipped with a permanent team of ten, George was not exactly busy collecting the best financial planners, credit analysts and mortgage brokers in the business, but more so developing them from scratch. Many of the team had the full support of George to study as a means to further advance their skills, so his attention soon turned towards the wider community.
George has long been passionate about the strength of his local Brisbane community. As the result of a long line of hardworking Greeks, when the opportunity came up for Madd Loans to be a sponsor for the annual Paniyiri Greek Festival, he jumped at the chance.
Determined to give back to the people that have supported him for so long, George also began to sponsor a scholarship at his previous school, Villanova College, for one student per year. Keep in mind, this is all in addition to the 326 loans settled at $149 million, plus a medley of new awards including another “Broker Of The Year” from the Connective Awards.
Although nobody could have predicted record low interest rates, border closures and a once in a generation global pandemic, George and the team at Madd Loans quickly sprung into action and checked in with each and every one of their clients. While some needed urgent loan restructures, others were simply happy to hear from their financial fairy godmothers.
While it’s true that many people suffered throughout 2020, plenty more used the change in spending habits as an opportunity to break into the property market, or expand their existing portfolio. As such, Madd actually had a record breaking year, pulling in 430 loan settlements in excess of $203 million dollars.
As a tool to connect with as many people as possible, Madd also started investing in content marketing to “digitalise” their existing offerings. From blogs, to email newsletters to webinars, the aim was to empower the general public with financial know how. In turn, George also took home two more awards, “Residential Broker Of The Year” and “Mortgage Broker Of The Year”.
On the back of Costa finally graduating to a fully fledged mortgage broker, George was able to take a slight step away from the tools, and focus more on where the business was heading. Together, they managed to crack another milestone, and settled a whopping 592 loans at a value of $309 million dollars.
After giving the Seven Hills office a makeover via a full scale renovation, George found himself wondering how the team could continuously embody the Madd Loans ethics, and showcase that to the wider community. As such, the ‘Making A Difference Daily’ initiative was launched, with Madd promoting sponsorship and charity based opportunities to other local businesses.
Never one to take his eye off the prize, George still managed to retain his dominance at industry awards throughout Australia, and still managed to take home “Queensland Broker Of The Year” at the Connective Awards, and was a finalist for “Mentor Of The Year” and “QLD Finance Broker Of The Year” at the FBAA Awards of Supremacy.
In 2022, Madd Loans celebrated a decade of transforming the mortgage landscape. Founder George Samios reflected on the company’s remarkable journey from its humble beginnings to a thriving team of twenty dedicated professionals. Madd Loans now empowers Australians to achieve financial freedom, sharing their expertise through the new “Financial Freedom” YouTube channel.
The Madd team achieved a monumental milestone, settling 522 loans totaling an impressive $338,000,000 in 2022. This accomplishment underscores their unwavering commitment to client success. To mark their 10th anniversary, Madd Loans hosted the inaugural Madd Ball, “A Night In Greece,” raising over $100,000 for the Children’s Hospital Foundation and solidifying their role as a pillar of the community.
Looking forward, George anticipates continued growth and innovation. Beyond spending time with his family, his 2023 plans include expanding Madd Loans into a new 1,000m2 office, further cementing his leadership in the finance sector. He embraces the future, knowing that while anything is possible, Madd Loans will continue to make a difference.
2023 was a landmark year for Madd Loans, marked by significant growth, impactful achievements, and deep community engagement. Settling 665 loans totaling $408,000,000 highlighted the team’s dedication. The launch of Madd Commercial expanded services, offering tailored financing for businesses, from property investment to equipment financing. Global perspective was gained at the World Mortgage Broker Summit in Las Vegas, while Madd Life celebrated its Superannuation and Investment Award at the AMAFA Conference in Bali.
Madd Loans’ commitment to giving back shone brightly. Sponsorship of the Villanova Bursary supported families in need, while continued support of the Paniyiri Greek Festival celebrated Brisbane’s culture. The second annual Madd Ball, a “Circus Spectacular,” at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, raised an astounding $200,000 for the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
2023 was a year of growth not only for Madd Loans, but also for the community they proudly serve. Through business expansion, global engagement, and philanthropic endeavors, Madd Loans reaffirmed its commitment to making a difference.
Madd Loans continued its strong community engagement in 2024, spreading Easter joy to sick children through the Children’s Hospital Foundation. Cultural support flourished with sponsorships of the Paniyiri Festival, Lunar New Year at the Fun Fu Festival, and the Cyprus Halloumi Festival. A focus on financial literacy saw the launch of a high school program, alongside the return of First Home Buyer and the introduction of an Investor Workshops.
Madd Vehicle and Asset launched, providing specialized vehicle and equipment financing solutions. Team achievements included Madd Life winning Best Practice of the Year at the AMAFA Conference in Queenstown, and Costa and Cathie ranking #1 and #3 Broker with CBA, respectively. Lunch & Learn sessions provided valuable financial insights to businesses, while internal team fun days prioritized well-being and celebrated a successful year.
