Next month marks a special milestone for one of Brisbane’s most loved events, the Paniyiri Greek Festival celebrating its 50th year.
What started in 1976 as a way to bring the Greek community together has grown into Queensland’s longest running cultural festival and one of the largest celebrations of its kind in Australia.
Each year, tens of thousands of people come together at Musgrave Park to experience the food, music and traditions that make Paniyiri what it is today.
More Than Just a Festival
Paniyiri is often known for its food and atmosphere, but at its core it is about people.
The name itself represents coming together, whether that is family, friends or the wider community. It is a space where culture is shared, stories are passed down and connections are built.
Across the weekend, you will see everything from traditional Greek dancing and live music to cooking demonstrations and community-run food stalls. It is a celebration that welcomes everyone, regardless of background, to be part of something bigger.
50 Years of Impact
Reaching 50 years is a significant milestone, and it reflects the strength of the community behind it.
Paniyiri is a not for profit event, run by volunteers, with proceeds going back into the community through various groups and initiatives.
It is a reminder that events like this are not just about a weekend of celebration. They create lasting impact, support important causes and help keep culture alive for future generations.
Why It Matters to Us at Madd
At Madd, giving back is not something separate from what we do. It is part of how we operate every day.
Our involvement with Paniyiri is a reflection of that. It is about supporting an event that brings people together, celebrates culture and contributes to the community in a meaningful way.
There is a strong alignment between what Paniyiri represents and what we value as a business. Connection, generosity and showing up for the people around us.
Each year, our team gets involved on the ground, volunteering across different food stands and helping support the event behind the scenes. It is something the team genuinely enjoys being part of, and it is always a great way to connect with the community in a more hands-on way. We will be there again this year, so if you see the team around, make sure you come and say hello.
Looking Ahead to This Year
With the 50th anniversary coming up in May, this year’s event is set to be one of the biggest yet.
It is an opportunity to celebrate everything Paniyiri has become over the past five decades, while continuing to build on the impact it has in the community.
If you have never been before, it is well worth experiencing. And if it is already part of your calendar each year, this one will be even more special.
We look forward to being part of it again.
