Figures are shown in today's dollars (adjusted for inflation). Fee figures are indicative estimates.
This tool is a model built on a set of assumptions. It is an illustration, not a prediction, and it cannot tell you what your final super balance will be — that depends on your circumstances, life events, and factors such as investment earnings, tax and inflation. Please don't rely on it to make financial decisions on its own.
Results are shown in today's dollars, meaning they're adjusted for inflation so you can compare them to money in your pocket today. The calculator covers accumulation-phase super only and does not handle defined-benefit accounts.
The Super Return shown for each investment option is a long-term estimate, net of earnings tax — the kind of figure you'd see quoted for a fund's performance. Your balance grows at that return minus the investment fee. For your current fund the defaults are a 0.70% investment fee, a flat administration fee of $62.40 per year plus 0.10% of your balance each year, and a default annual insurance premium of $521; you can enter your own fees for the alternative and recommended funds. Because the investment fee is paid out of your super, it is deducted from your balance and counted in the fees you pay. The fees figure is broken down by type beneath each result. Default inflation is 2.5% per year for cost of living plus a further 1.2% per year for rising living standards. You can change any of these.
Employer and salary-sacrifice (before-tax) contributions are taxed at 15% on the way in, and your total before-tax contributions are limited to the annual concessional cap (assumed to be $32,500). After-tax contributions are limited to the annual non-concessional cap. Investment returns are shown net of earnings tax; the investment fee is then deducted from your balance each year. In future years, income, contributions and caps are assumed to rise broadly in line with inflation.
| Investment option | Assumed return % p.a. (net of earnings tax) |
|---|---|
| Cash | 4.0% |
| Conservative | 5.0% |
| Moderate | 6.0% |
| Balanced | 7.0% |
| Growth | 8.0% |
| High Growth | 9.0% |
These are long-term return assumptions (net of earnings tax). Each fund's investment fee is deducted from its return to give net growth, and that fee is included in the fees you pay.
Actual returns vary significantly year to year and can be negative, particularly for options weighted toward shares and property. This calculator applies a steady assumed return and does not model that variability.
