One of the most inspiring stories we have shared this year is that of Lachy, an apprentice butcher from Brisbane who has just become a homeowner at only 18 years old. His story has made national headlines and for us it highlights the true impact of financial education and the importance of giving young people the right tools early in life.
Lachy’s journey started back at Villanova College when George was invited to run a Madd Financial Literacy Workshop. These sessions are a core part of what Madd is all about. They are practical, real-world conversations that cover everything from saving and budgeting through to how mortgages actually work. For many students it is the first time money is explained in a way that makes sense. George has been delivering these workshops for years with one simple goal in mind, to make sure the next generation grows up with the knowledge and confidence to take control of their financial future.
For Lachy, that workshop was the moment things clicked. He realised that buying property was not something reserved for later in life, it was something he could aim for right away. With George’s support, he built a game plan, set clear savings targets and stuck to them. Just twelve months later and only a year out of school, Lachy had saved enough to buy his first property. He is now not only a homeowner but one of the youngest landlords in Australia.
Stories like Lachy’s remind us why we do what we do. Finance can feel overwhelming when you do not have the right guidance, but with the right plan and the right support, incredible things are possible. Lachy’s success is proof that when young people are taught the value of discipline, planning and smart choices, they can achieve things that many people twice their age still believe are out of reach.
Congratulations Lachy, we are so proud to have been part of your journey and we cannot wait to see what you do next.
If you are a school, teacher or parent and want your students to benefit from a Madd Financial Literacy Workshop, reach out to our team. We would love to share these lessons and help inspire the next generation to believe in themselves and take confident steps toward financial freedom.
