Madd Loans has just celebrated their inaugural charity gala which raised an incredible $121,612 for the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The ball — which was themed a night in Greece — transformed the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre into a traditional Santorini experience, complete with Hellenic dancers. But more importantly, they were able to make a positive difference with all of the money they raised for sick children and their families who are doing it tough.
The CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation Lyndsey Rice says the work that the team at Madd put in to get this funding was remarkable.
“The energy and enthusiasm of George Samios and the wider Madd community is extraordinary,” she said.
Mrs Rice also went along to thank everyone who attended for “digging deep to help make a difference in the fight against childhood injury and illness.”
“Everything we do for sick and injured kids would not be possible without the generous support of partners like Madd,” she also said.
“These partners are the reason we are able to help sick kids just be kids.”
The founder of Madd — which stands for ‘make a difference daily’ — George Samios is thrilled with how much they were able to raise for the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
“Giving back has always been a huge part of Madd’s success and this year we wanted to go bigger by hosting our very own Gala Charity Ball.”
It was great for all involved to see his idea to go bigger succeed.
The Children’s Hospital Foundation invests in ground-breaking research as well as life saving equipment to provide high quality care to children and their families. They also provide entertainment services to patients and their families, to heighten their quality of life.
The generosity and compassion shown by George and the rest of the team at Madd mean the Children’s Hospital Foundation can keep doing their great work to make the hospital journey a little bit less scary for patients and families.
Mrs rice says that “what that means is that we can continue to fund some of Queensland’s sickest kids here at the foundation.”
“It means we can fund more life saving research, we can purchase some of the critical equipment that is needed over there at the hospital” and “we can provide more support to patients and families who are doing it tough,” she said.
Every single ticket purchase went directly to the Children’s Hospital Foundation to ensure to help them out in achieving one of their primary goals. Mrs Rice described this goal by saying, “we just want kids to be kids.”
It’s easy to see that so much of George’s love for helping others has come from the culture that he grew up in. Anyone who has met George or visited the Madd office would know how passionate George is of his Greek heritage, so it was only fitting the theme of the gala was ‘A Night In Greece.’
“Greece will always hold a special place in my heart,” he said and added, “at Madd we love to help our clients reach their version of financial freedom, for me – this is an annual family trip to Greece so I cannot wait to share some of this experience right here in Brisbane.”
Anyone who speaks to George’s Mum — who used to work at Madd when it started – can see the influence she has had on his generosity. She said that he wanted to run the charity ball as a way for her and the rest of Madd “to give back to the community.”
Her charitable nature was instilled into her as a child, after witnessing her father’s compassion first hand.
“My father always told me to help those less fortunate and growing up I always saw that he couldn’t even walk past one beggar without giving,” Helen Zeremes said.
“I’ve watched him help family and friends get into business and how happy he was to see them being successful.”
It is incredible to see such strong family values pass down through the generations and now positively impact countless people in the community that surrounds this family.
Madd Operations Manager and Executive Assistant to George Tia Niarhos explained that this charity ball had been years in the making.
“Well, it all started in 2020 actually,” she said. “When I first started at MADD, I always heard about this dream that everyone wanted to do it, and I was just like, wow. That’s so exciting,” she added.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 put a stop to the process of committee meetings they had on the ball. However, when they had the chance to put on the ball, they took the opportunity with both hands.
“It comes back to making a difference daily,” she said.
Helen also added that throughout the planning process, they learnt to “reach out to all family, friends, and the broader community for support.
The team at Madd also wanted to thank all their sponsors and the incredible Madd Ball committee. They made it clear that without all of the hard work, support, and dedication from them, they would not have been able to run such an unforgettable ball and raise such a significant amount of money for charity.
