Today, RBWH is home to around 500 clinician researchers, and is one of the largest research institutions in the world. It is considered a national leader in infectious diseases, cancer care, maternity, trauma and burns care, and is on the Steering Committee for the international ASCOT COVID-19 clinical treatment trial.
Since its inception, the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital Foundation has engaged with the community and achieved great things. One of its most prominent fundraising events is the Royal Giving Day initiative, an annual twenty four hour event. This event allows Queenslanders to throw their support behind the RBWH and raise much needed funds distributed towards cutting edge medical research, evidence based patient care, education and innovative equipment, Royal Giving Day has managed to raise over $50 million dollars since it was established in 1985.
Madd Loans have long supported the Royal Giving Day initiative, and have incorporated this event into the Madd Challenge. With the focus being to “make a difference daily”, the Madd Challenge encourages its team and its clients to give back to their local community in a wide variety of formats. For the 2021 Royal Giving Day, Queenslanders were encouraged to get behind the cause as individuals, workplaces like Madd Loans, and even in RBWH’s own departments via getting active, facing a fear or even breaking a bad habit.
With 100% of all funds donating going straight to the researchers, the funds provided support for real world achievements, equipment and research such as new tools to improve the RBWH burns unit, the introduction of therapy dogs, neurology research, spinal fellowships and improvements to allied health. By embracing fundraising efforts linked to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, even small businesses like Madd Loans have the power to improve the quality of healthcare available to Queenslanders right around the state.
